A router is a networking device that connects several devices to the internet and a local area network (LAN). It serves as a central hub for devices to connect with one another and with the internet. A router can be used in both residential and commercial settings. A router’s principal job is to redirect traffic between networks. It receives data packets from one network and routes them to the correct network. If a device on a home network wishes to connect to the internet, the data packets are first sent to the router, which then routes them to the internet.
